A suspect was killed in a confrontation with Detroit police on Sunday after allegedly driving through an active crime scene, striking a police officer with his car while firing shots at officers out of the window of his vehicle.
WDIV-TV reported that at least one officer was hit by the man’s vehicle during the incident; The Hill has reached out to Detroit police to confirm the number of officers injured.
The unnamed suspect exited his vehicle and began firing shots at police after a chase, officials said, resulting in him being struck by gunfire. He was pronounced dead at a nearby hospital.
Police were investigating two incidents in the area at the time of the suspect’s arrival at the crime scene, according to WDIV-TV, including a shooting in which five people were injured and a car crash that left one dead and another critically injured; the two incidents are thought to be related.
Authorities were expected to give an update on the chase and confrontation with the suspect Monday morning, but did not release an official statement Sunday evening, according to local news affiliate Fox 2.
