Police in Georgia released dashcam video on Thursday showing the events of a shooting earlier this week in which three officers were wounded after a suspect opened fire with an AK-47 during a chase.

Local news affiliate 11 Alive reported Wednesday that the video, released by the Carroll County Sheriff’s Office, begins at a police traffic stop Monday that resulted from troopers stopping a car clocked at 111 mph on an interstate highway.

The car sped off from officers after being stopped, and a passenger in the vehicle opened fire on officers, disabling one patrol car, with the weapon after police attempted a maneuver to stop the fleeing vehicle. The chase continued and two others were struck by gunfire, including one officer who was struck in the head while driving and crashed his car into a pole; he was airlifted to a nearby hospital, where he is reportedly recovering well.

Law enforcement officers from three agencies including the Carrolton Police Department, Villa Rica Police Department, and Carroll County Sheriff’s office were involved in the chase.

One suspect was killed at the scene, and identified as 28-year-old Pier Alexander Shelton, while his cousin, 22-year-old Aaron Jajuan Shelton, was arrested and taken into custody apparently uninjured.

“If not for the heroic efforts of all Officers and agencies involved and to Corporal Troutt and Deputy Repetto for stopping the suspect, this incident could have resulted in more Officers being injured or killed and the suspects could have posed an even bigger threat to the public as this occurred in a residential area, and at this time of the morning, people are getting ready for work and staff is getting ready to arrive at the school,” the Carroll County Sheriff’s Office said in a statement to 11 Alive.
