King Soopers chain to give $1M to Colorado Healing Fund following Boulder shooting

King Soopers chain announced on Thursday that it is donating $1 million to the Colorado Healing Fund, a group that is supporting the victims, survivors, families and communities that were affected by this week’s shooting at a Boulder King Soopers store.

“The entire King Soopers family continues to mourn the loss of those who were victims of this senseless act of violence,” Steve Burnham, president of King Soopers/City Market, said. “We have been overwhelmed by the outpouring of support from our fellow Coloradans, and we thank everyone for their incredible kindness.”

The Boulder shooter took the lives of 10 people on Monday after he open fired in a King Soopers grocery store with an AR-15.

King Soopers has taken several initiatives since the shooting to provide support to its employees and customers who were affected by the shooting.

King Soopers and CHF have made donating easier by setting up direct donations online, a text option to donate and an option for customers to round up their total or make a donation at the check-out line.

King Soopers is also providing mental health services to associates, emergency paid leave to associates directly affected, a hotline for any questions about assistance, and assistance to families of victims to help cover funeral costs.

“During this unprecedented time, our most urgent priority is to provide a safe environment for associates and customers, and we will continue to make decisions that best support their needs,” Burnham said. “The Boulder King Soopers store will remain closed until the police investigation is complete. We are committed to helping the community grieve and heal from this tragic event.”

The Boulder star, which is normally only lit for holidays, will be lit for 10 days to honor all 10 victims of the shooting.
