Authorities in Atlanta on Wednesday arrested a 22-year-old man who they said walked into a Publix grocery store carrying six guns and wearing body armor, just two days after a gunman killed 10 people at a Boulder, Colo., supermarket.
The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports that police were called around 1:30 p.m. and met with the store’s manager who alerted them to the man, who police identified as Rico Marley, who entered with a rifle and headed toward the bathroom.
“A witness observed the male and alerted store management, who then notified police,” Atlanta police spokesman Anthony Grant told the Journal-Constitution.
After officers saw Marley leaving the bathroom, they quickly apprehended him. They found two long guns and four handguns, all of which were reportedly concealed.
Authorities have not yet determined why Marley was carrying so many weapons.
He has been charged with attempted aggravated assault and six counts of possession of firearm while committing a felony.
“We are cooperating with local law enforcement on an incident that occurred earlier today in our Atlantic Station store,” a Publix spokesperson said in a statement. “We are thankful that there were no injuries, and all were able to exit the store safely. The store is currently closed.”
