A driver struck at least one protester in Denver on Wednesday night during a gathering against a grand jury deciding not to bring any charges against police officers in the killing of Breonna Taylor.

The Denver Police Department (DPD) said one male was detained after a vehicle drove into a protest at a city intersection. No injuries were reported.

The Hill has reached out to the DPD for comment.

The incident occurred around 9:15 p.m., according to a report from The Denver Post. The driver allegedly pulled into an area where protesters gathered in front of the Colorado Capitol.

Demonstrators reportedly surrounded the car, and the driver pulled to a stop. Protesters then called for the driver to turn around and banged their fists on the car, according to the Post, which added that that was when the driver reportedly accelerated into several people standing in front of his vehicle.

A woman identified by the first name Kate told the newspaper that she was pushed to the ground and the driver ran over her bicycle.

“I was kind of going up on the hood and I was like, ‘No, I’m not doing this,’ and I rolled over to the side,” she said. “He wasn’t gonna stop even though I was, like, on his hood.”

Kate said she attended the protest because “they let Breonna Taylor’s murderers off.”

A Kentucky grand jury on Wednesday did not bring any charges against Louisville police officers in the killing of Taylor, and instead announced three lesser counts of wanton endangerment against now-former officer Brett Hankison, who was fired in June.

The decision sparked outrage across the country, launching many similar Black Lives Matter protests.

Two Louisville police officers were shot amid local protests hours after Kentucky officials made the announcement.
