The storm hitting southern Texas, Hanna, has weakened to a tropical storm, the National Hurricane Center said early Sunday.
The tropical storm conditions are expected to persist into the afternoon near and to the east of the center of Hanna, the hurricane center said.
The hurricane center warned that heavy rainfall will continue to cause life-threatening flash flooding over south Texas and northern Mexico. There have already been numerous reports of flash flooding across south Texas, according to the National Hurricane Center said.
The hurricane center also warned of isolated minor to moderate river flooding in south Texas on Sunday.
Storm surges along the Texas coast should continue to diminish throughout the day, the hurricane center said.
Hannah hit Texas on Saturday bringing gusts of more than 90 mph, storm surges and rain across the state. The storm officially made landfall at 5 p.m. CT on Padre Island as a Category 1 hurricane.
Texas Gov. Greg Abbott (R) issued a disaster declaration Saturday for 32 counties.
