South Carolina will allow attractions to reopen ahead of Memorial Day weekend

Attraction facilities in South Carolina, including zoos, museums, water parks and amusement parks, will be allowed to open Friday ahead of Memorial Day weekend, Gov. Henry McMaster (R) announced Wednesday. 

The state released safety guidelines for the facilities, including calling for facilities to install “sneeze guards” in front of point-of-sale or guest service stations. The state guidelines also recommend facilities encourage guests to wear masks and monitor crowd levels. 

McMaster also announced that youth and adult sport leagues will be able to resume practice on May 30. Sports can resume playing competitive games in South Carolina on June 15. 

The state also released guidelines regarding day camps, which were never closed down under any state order amid the pandemic. 

The guidelines include call for camps to practice social distancing “to the greatest extent possible” and disinfect frequently touched objects. The state also recommends individuals “strongly consider wearing” face coverings when it is difficult to practice social distancing, with the caveat that face coverings should not be used on children under 2-years-old. 

There are 9,175 confirmed COVID-19 cases across South Carolina and 407 deaths, according to state data.
