Chicago sees most Halloween snow in nearly a century as storm sweeps US
Thursday was Halloween, but in Chicago and other parts of the Midwest it looked more like winter, as the Windy City saw a 96-year-old snow record shattered earlier in the week.
{mosads}On Wednesday, Chicago saw its earliest snow fall greater than an inch since Oct. 20, 1989, AccuWeather reports. O’Hare International Airport saw 1.2 inches fall, breaking the 0.7 inch record that was set back in 1923.
On Halloween itself, O’Hare picked up 3.4 more inches of snow, which broke the city’s Halloween snowfall record that had stood since 1993.
The average Halloween temperature in Chicago is 57 degrees, but this year temperatures sat in the mid-20s for most of the day.
Nearby Milwaukee also set a new record for snowfall on the day, as Wisconsin’s largest city saw 5.4 inches of snow, destroying the previous record of 0.4 inches set in 1926.
