Illinois sends legal recreational marijuana bill to governor’s desk
The Democratic governor of Illinois is expected to sign legislation legalizing recreational marijuana in the state after the bill passed the state House on Friday.
Gov. J. B. Pritzker has supported the legislation and campaigned on the issue.
{mosads}The bill will allow Illinoisans age 21 and older to buy marijuana at licensed dispensaries beginning next year, according to Chicago’s WGN station. Residents could legally possess up to one ounce.
The Illinois House voted 66-47 on Friday to approve the bill, which was passed by the state Senate on Tuesday.
The bill, once signed, will make Illinois the 11th state to legalize recreational marijuana, which is still illegal at the federal level.
