Texas GOP chief endorses Trump after two contests in other states
The head of the Texas Republican Party announced his endorsement of former President Trump on Monday.
Texas Republican Party Chair Matt Rinaldi endorsed Trump in a Monday post on X, formerly known as Twitter. He also endorsed Republican Texas state House candidate David Covey, who is challenging Texas House Speaker Dade Phelan in the GOP primary for his seat in March.
“While party officials should remain neutral in primaries absent extraordinary circumstances, the threat our nation faces from the Democrats, globalists, and fake Republicans that hand power to Democrats is truly extraordinary. We need everyone in this fight,” Rinaldi wrote in his endorsement.
Trump won the Iowa caucuses and the New Hampshire primary races earlier this month, maintaining a strong lead over his fellow GOP presidential candidate Nikki Haley. He has collected 32 of the 1,215 delegates needed to clinch the Republican nomination, while Haley has earned 17, according to Decision Desk HQ.
Haley is the only major GOP challenger to the former president remaining in the race as she hopes to make a strong showing in her home state of South Carolina next month. The Texas GOP primary will take place on Super Tuesday on March 5.
