A clerk at a public school in Connecticut resigned after video appeared to show her spitting at a black man and repeatedly calling him a racial slur.

Hamden Public Schools confirmed to the New Haven Register that a woman who worked for the school district resigned after an investigatory meeting into the incident was scheduled.

“We have become aware of video footage that appears to show an employee in our district engaged in abhorrent conduct,” Hamden Public Schools wrote in a statement posted on its website. “Specifically, the video appears to show the employee repeatedly calling an African-American man the N-word in a supermarket in East Haven.”

The local news outlet reports the white woman to be former Hamden Public Schools employee Corinne Terrone.

{mosads}Video shows her calling two people of color the N-word at least three times and spitting at the man after he approaches her.

The man in the video slaps the phone out of Terrone’s hand after she attempts to record the situation following her racial slurs.

East Haven Police Lt. Joseph Murgo told the local news outlet in a statement that the department “is aware of this disturbing video and the hate speech contained in it” but has not received a formal complaint.

The school district in its statement said it filed a report with the Department of Children and Families because Terrone’s children were with her during the incident.

“The language the employee used in the video is in conflict with the values of the Hamden Public School System,” the district said. “Someone who will use that sort of language in any setting, whether public or private, is not someone we want anywhere near our children.”

Mayor Curt Leng condemned the incident as “vile” and “shocking” and praised the school district for its handling of the situation.
