GOP governors sign letter supporting Nobel Peace Prize for Trump
Seven Republican governors have signed onto a letter in support of President Trump’s nomination to receive the Nobel Peace Prize.
The letter, organized by South Carolina Gov. Henry McMaster and sent Monday to the chair of the Nobel Committee, praises Trump for his “unprecedented victory for global peace and security” in negotiations with North Korea.
“The President’s firm stance against nuclearization, coupled with his willingness to engage one-on-one with Pyongyang, has succeeded in opening new avenues of cooperation, friendship and unity between the two Koreas – and the rest of the world,” the letter reads.

Earlier this month, 18 House Republicans led by Rep. Luke Messer (R-Ind.) formally nominated Trump for the prize for his efforts to denuclearize the Korean Peninsula.
Messer announced he would nominate Trump for the prize, which has only been won by four other U.S. presidents, after a meeting between North Korean leader Kim Jong Un and South Korean President Moon Jae-in where the two agreed to work toward denuclearization and formally ending the decades-long Korean War.
Trump is expected meet with Kim in Singapore in June, a first for a sitting U.S. president.
“After nearly two decades of gridlock and global anxiety surrounding North Korea’s nuclear program, we are now, at last, on the precipice of peace,” the governors write. “There is but one new variable: President Donald J. Trump and his successful policy of security through strength. There is no one more deserving of the Nobel Peace Prize.”
