Sen. Ron Johnson (R-Wis.) indicated that the current chaos surrounding President Biden’s reelection campaign is good for his party in an interview that aired Sunday.

“It’s hard to unseat the incumbent,” Johnson said on “The Cats Roundtable” on WABC 770 AM to radio host John Catsimatidis.

“That was the pony they were gonna ride to reelection and continued power, and all the sudden that blew up in their face and now they’re scrambling. Now it’s… ‘How can we pull this outta the dumpster?’” Johnson said of Democrats. “It’s kind of fun to watch, quite honestly.”

Biden and his campaign have been recently dealing with the fallout of a rocky presidential debate performance against former President Trump last month, during which the president stumbled over his words and spoke with a raspy voice. That performance sparked widespread fears among Democrats about the president’s age, mental fitness and ability to hold on to the presidency.

Multiple Democratic lawmakers have already called on the president to step out of the presidential race, in both the House and the Senate. However, at a Thursday night press conference, Biden said he believes he is “the most qualified person to run for president.”

“I believe I’m the best qualified to govern,” Biden said. “And I think I’m the best qualified to win. But there are other people who could beat Trump, too. But it’s all start from scratch. And you know, we talk about money raised. We’re not doing bad.”

“So let’s start there, No. 1” he continued. “The fact is, the consideration is, that I think I’m the most qualified person to run for president. I beat him once, and I will beat him again.”

The Republican National Convention (RNC) is set to be held in Johnson’s home state in Milwaukee beginning Monday. In the interview with Catsimatidis, Johnson said he wishes “convention goers get to sample some of our beer and brats, and hopefully, fresh cheese curds,” which Johnson’s home state is known for.

Trump has said there is a high “chance” he will announce his vice presidential pick at the convention.

“That’s probably a pretty good chance, I would say. I don’t say anything’s 100 percent, but you’re getting pretty close. I’ll be doing it in Milwaukee, we’ll be — we’re gonna have a great time,” Trump said in an interview released in May.
