Rubio: Biden is ‘demented man propped up by wicked and deranged people’

Sen. Marco Rubio (R-Fla.) speaks at a Senate Intelligence Committee hearing to examine worldwide threats at the Capitol on Monday, March 11, 2024.

Sen. Marco Rubio (R-Fla.) slammed President Biden on Friday, calling him a “demented man” in a post on the social media platform X.

“Our current President is a demented man propped up by wicked & deranged people willing to destroy our country to remain in power,” Rubio said in the post, which features a video of Biden following a Friday announcement about the Israel-Hamas war.

In the video, Biden is walking away from a podium as someone asks him a question.

“Mr. President, can you tell us sir, [former President Trump] refers to himself as a ‘political prisoner’ and blames you directly, what’s your response to that, sir?” the person asks.

The president then stops walking mid-question, turns around and smiles.

An email from Trump National Committee JFC attempting to raise funds off of the former president’s recent guilty verdict in his New York hush money case featured a photo of Trump that labeled him as a “political prisoner.”

“Friend: Is this the end of America? I was just convicted in a RIGGED political Witch Hunt trial: I DID NOTHING WRONG! They’ve raided my home, arrested me, took my mugshot, AND NOW THEY’VE JUST CONVICTED ME! But with your support at this moment in history, WE WILL WIN BACK THE WHITE HOUSE AND MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN!” the email reads.

Trump on Thursday became the first former U.S. president to acquire the status of being a convicted felon following a jury finding him guilty on all counts of falsifying business records to hide alleged affairs amid his 2016 campaign.

Rubio, considered a possible contender for Trump’s vice presidential slot on his 2024 ticket, is one of many prominent Republicans who have criticized the verdict in the hush money case.

“I think it’s terrible. I think what this shows today, is that they can go after a former president with a ridiculous charge like this and gain a conviction, they can go after anybody,” Rubio said on Fox News’s “Hannity” Thursday.

“And most people can’t afford to fight this stuff off.”

The Biden campaign referred The Hill to the Democratic National Committee (DNC).

In a statement, DNC spokesperson Alex Floyd said Trump “has made it clear that passing his extreme MAGA litmus test now includes attacking the rule of law — but Marco Rubio is so desperate to be Trump’s running mate he is willing to threaten law and order and undermine our judicial system just for a chance to lose on the same ticket as Trump come November.”

The Hill has reached out to the White House for comment.
