Swalwell: ‘Days of Presidential Immunity are OVER’

Rep. Eric Swalwell (D-Calif.) on Monday lashed out at President Trump, tweeting that the “days of Presidential Immunity” are over, hitting the president for his accusations that Democrats are hurting the stock market.

{mosads}Replying to a tweet from the president that blamed Democrats for stock market fluctuations, Swalwell defended his party, saying that there would be “no more colluding with Russia” and threatening to expose Trump’s tax returns.

“The days of Presidential Immunity are OVER. Gone,” Swalwell tweeted on Monday. “No more free passes to cash in on access to the Oval Office. No more colluding with Russia.”

“And we’ll see if you’re a tax cheat. America is putting a balance of power on your abuses of power,” Swalwell wrote. “Welcome to democracy.”

The congressman was replying to a tweet in which Trump blamed Democrats for causing stock market dips after they took the House in last Tuesday’s midterm elections.

“The prospect of Presidential Harassment by the Dems is causing the Stock Market big headaches!” Trump tweeted.

Trump warned in remarks after the midterms that the many opportunities he saw for bipartisan policy would disappear if House Democrats spend their time investigating him, saying he would adopt a “warlike posture.”

“They can play that game, but we can play it better, because we have a thing called the United States Senate,” he added.

“It’ll go back and forth. And it’ll probably be very good for me politically,” he said. “I could see it being extremely good politically, because I think I’m better at that game than they are, actually”

Swalwell’s tweet came a day after the California congressman slammed Trump as a “national embarrassment” over the president’s trip to Paris over the weekend.
