French President Emmanuel Macron on Sunday expressed his condolences to Sen. John McCain’s family after the Arizona Republican’s death from brain cancer.
In a tweet, the French leader called the senator a “true American hero.”
“John McCain was a true American hero,” Macron said. “He devoted his entire life to his country. His voice will be missed. Our respectful thoughts go to his beloved ones.”
{mosads}Macron is one of a number of world leaders, politicians and past U.S. presidents of both parties who have made statements praising McCain following his death.
McCain, a former prisoner of war who dominated the political stage and was widely respected across party lines, died Saturday at age 81 following a months-long battle with an aggressive form of brain cancer.
