Feinstein on YouTube HQ shooting: Only in America is this common

Sen. Dianne Feinstein (D-Calif.) on Tuesday decried the shooting at YouTube headquarters in San Bruno, Calif., saying the nation’s current position on guns has allowed such incidents to become commonplace.

“Only in America is a shooter unleashing gunfire in an office building a common occurrence. Only in America are people evacuating the scene of a shooting with their hands on their heads is a familiar sight,” Feinstein said in a statement.

“We simply must take meaningful steps to stop these shootings and stem the tide of gun violence in our communities. We are a nation awash in guns,” she continued.

Feinstein’s comments come after a shooter opened fire at the YouTube campus, injuring four people.

San Bruno Police Chief Ed Barberini said authorities found a deceased woman with a self-inflicted gunshot wound, whom they believe is the shooter.

The shooting comes over a month after 17 people were killed in a shooting at a high school in Parkland, Fla., reigniting debate over the nation’s gun laws.

Other California lawmakers took to social media to react to Tuesday’s shooting in San Bruno:

President Trump confirmed on Twitter he was briefed on the situation, tweeting “thoughts and prayers” for those affected by the shooting.
