McConnell elected Senate GOP leader
Sen. Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) has been unanimously elected the Senate’s majority leader by his fellow Republicans.
{mosads}McConnell will take over those duties in January when the new Congress convenes.
Republicans have gained eight seats from the midterm elections after Republican Dan Sullivan was declared the winner over Sen. Mark Begich (D) in Alaska. They could take a ninth seat in a runoff in Louisiana next month if Rep. Bill Cassidy (R) defeats Sen. Mary Landrieu.
