Dive team brought in to aid in search for Brian Laundrie

A dive team has been added to the search for Brian Laundrie, the missing fiancé of Gabby Petito, whose body was recently recovered in Wyoming.

On Wednesday, the underwater law enforcement dive team arrived at the Carlton Reserve in Florida to continue looking for Laundrie, who has been missing for several days, according to CNN.

The Sheriff’s Underwater Recovery Force’s (SURF) arrival is the latest in the sweep of the 25,000-acre reserve in Venice, Fla. Laundrie told his parents that he was heading to the reserve last week but has not been seen since.

The North Port Police on Wednesday morning asked the SURF team to aid in the search, Sarasota County Sheriff’s Office spokeswoman Kaitlyn Perez told CNN.

“These divers are specifically trained and very talented in low visibility bodies of water,” Perez said.

She added, “They dive down where you and I can’t see anything at all. They utilize technology and other special equipment to help them get down deep into really deep bodies of water, so they’re out there right now to recover whatever it is that they might find.”

The Sarasota County Sheriff’s Office did not immediately respond to The Hill’s request for comment.

Laundrie has been named a person of interest in the case of Petito’s death. Petito was reported missing on Sept. 11, after Laundrie returned to Florida on Sept. 1 without his fiancée. At the time, Laundrie came back to the home he shared with Petito and his parents with her Ford Transit van.

The FBI executed a search warrant at the Florida home of Laundrie’s parents on Monday.

On Tuesday, the FBI confirmed the remains that were found in Wyoming to be those of Petito, with the coroner making an initial determination that the manner of death was homicide. The final cause of death is pending.
