Vaccinated NFL players to be tested weekly

NFL players who are vaccinated against COVID-19 will be required to get tested weekly, instead of every two weeks, under a new agreement between the league and the players’ association.

The revised COVID-19 protocol will apply to players, coaches and trainers, as well as front office personnel and other team employees. Daily testing will continue as planned for unvaccinated players.

The new restrictions will also cap each team’s traveling party at 75 people, with masks required for all travel.

Players will be assigned seats during team meals, and public transportation will be prohibited for team personnel.

The changes come a week after the league announced that 93 percent of players are vaccinated against the coronavirus.

The league commissioner’s office warned teams last month that they could forfeit games this season if they are unable to play due to coronavirus outbreaks among unvaccinated players. That memo drew criticism from players like Arizona Cardinals wide receiver DeAndre Hopkins and Buffalo Bills wide receiver Cole Beasley, who have both questioned the effectiveness of being vaccinated against the virus.
