Macron now symptom-free after testing positive for COVID-19

French officials said President Emmanuel Macron is now symptom-free after announcing that he tested positive for the coronavirus last week.

Macron was quarantining for seven days at the presidential residence of La Lanterne in the city of Versailles, but he is now set to end his self-isolation, Reuters reported.

The French president initially reported fatigue, a dry cough and headaches, but Macron’s office said that his health has improved.

Macron tested positive for the virus on Dec. 17, following the European Union summit in Brussels and several meetings in Paris. He was also criticized for greeting others with handshakes and enjoying meals with large groups of people.

The French government has expressed concerns of a potential rise in coronavirus cases during the Christmas holiday. The number of virus-related deaths in the country increased this week to nearly 62,000, according to France24.

Overall, the nation has seen a total of 2,562,615 coronavirus cases since the pandemic began, according to Johns Hopkins University.
