New Zealand’s Jacinda Ardern congratulates Biden, Harris: ‘Your message of unity is one we share’

New Zealand Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern congratulated Democratic nominee Joe Biden on his projected win of the 2020 U.S. presidential election.

In an Instagram post on Saturday, Ardern shared a 2016 photo of Biden as he was welcomed to the Government House in Auckland.

“Congratulations President-elect @joebiden and @kamalaharris on your victory in the US Presidential election,” Ardern wrote. “With so many issues facing the international community, your message of unity is one we share. New Zealand looks forward to working with you both!”

Ardern joined several other world leaders in congratulating Biden and his running mate, Sen. Kamala Harris (D-Calif.). British Prime Minister Boris Johnson, French President Emmanuel Macron and German Chancellor Angela Merkel were among the leaders to offer their well wishes to the Democratic nominee.

“On behalf of the Government of Canada, I congratulate Joe Biden and Kamala Harris on their election as the next President and Vice President of the United States of America,” Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau tweeted.

Narendra Modi, India’s prime minister, similarly congratulated Biden’s campaign, tweeting on Saturday, “Congratulations @JoeBiden on your spectacular victory! As the VP, your contribution to strengthening Indo-US relations was critical and invaluable. I look forward to working closely together once again to take India-US relations to greater heights.”
