International soccer star Cristiano Ronaldo has tested positive for COVID-19, the Portuguese soccer federation announced on Tuesday.
“Cristiano Ronaldo was released from the work of the National Team after a positive test for COVID-19, so he will not face Sweden,” the federation said in a statement. “The Portuguese international is doing well, without symptoms, and in isolation.”
Ronaldo played in a match against France on Sunday and also played in another contest last week.
Other players on the team were tested negative following Ronaldo’s diagnosis. They will be training this afternoon in Cidade do Futebol.
Portugal is set to face Sweden Wednesday in a UEFA Nations League match.
