Authorities shoot at SUV after it breaches Mar-a-Lago security

Local authorities have arrested two people after a vehicle breached two security checkpoints at President Trump’s Mar-a-Lago resort on Friday, prompting officials to shoot at the car.

The Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office said the Florida Highway Patrol was in pursuit of a black SUV Friday morning as it headed toward two security checkpoints just outside the Mar-a-Lago property. The vehicle drove past both checkpoints toward the entrance when officials opened fire, authorities said.

Police have since located the vehicle, and two individuals are in custody, the sheriff’s office said. Officials are expected to hold a news conference later Friday, and the Florida Department of Law Enforcement is investigating the incident.

Trump is scheduled to travel to Mar-a-Lago later Friday to spend the weekend there.

The Trump Organization did not respond to a request for comment.

Friday’s incident is the latest security breach to occur involving the president’s Palm Beach resort, where he often spends the holidays and weekends during the winter.

Police in December arrested a Chinese national, Jing Lu, after she allegedly trespassed and took photos at the property.

Another Chinese national, Yuji Zhang, was detained in March 2019 and convicted in September 2019 of trespassing and lying to federal agents after she misled property staff about her identity and entered the club with a thumb drive containing malicious software.
