Packaged vegetables from Trader Joe’s, Green Giant, Signature Farms recalled over possible listeria risk

Multiple packaged vegetable products are being voluntarily recalled over potential listeria contamination, the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) announced Monday.

Impacted products include packaged butternut squash, cauliflower and zucchini from Trader Joe’s, Green Giant, Signature Farms and Growers Express. 

Potentially contaminated products originated at a Growers Express facility in Biddeford, Maine, and were distributed to stores in a variety of states including Massachusetts, Connecticut, Maine and Pennsylvania as well as Washington, D.C.{mosads}

Growers Express self-reported the recall to the FDA. 

“We are deep sanitizing the entire facility and our line equipment, as well as conducting continued testing on top of our usual battery of sanitation and quality and safety tests before resuming production,” Tom Byrne, president of Growers Express, said in the FDA announcement. 

Most affected products are labeled with “Best If Used By” dates of June 26 to June 29. The recall does not impact canned or frozen Green Giant products. 

There have been no reported cases of illnesses, according to the FDA. 

Listeria is an organism that can cause serious, sometimes fatal, infections. 

A full list of impacted products is available in the FDA’s online announcement. The agency urges consumers who purchase products on the list to throw them away.
