A Brooklyn man pleaded guilty on Friday to threatening to murder a U.S. senator over what he said was criticism of President Trump.
Michael Brogan faces up to 10 years in prison, according to U.S. Attorney Richard Donoghue’s office.
{mosads}According to the U.S. attorney’s office, Brogan left a voice message directed at an unidentified senator in which he said, “You watch your [expletive] ’cause … I’m going to put a bullet in ya.”
The message also warned the senator over “your constant lambasting of President Trump. Oh, reproductive rights, reproductive rights.”
“You watch your [expletive]. If I see you on the streets, I’m gonna [expletive] light you up with [expletive] bullets,” Brogan reportedly said.
Brogan told the New York Daily News he made the call in “the heat of the moment” after hearing the senator criticize Trump and anti-abortion protesters.
“Brogan threatened to assault and murder a sitting United States senator to silence the senator and interfere with the performance of the senator’s official duties,” Donoghue said in a statement. “The Department of Justice stands ready to vigorously prosecute those who seek to subvert our constitutional system and intimidate elected officials through threats of violence.”
