Stacey Abrams joins board at liberal think tank

Former Georgia gubernatorial candidate Stacey Abrams (D) is joining the board of the liberal think tank Center for American Progress, the group announced Wednesday.

Abrams saw her star rise in the Democratic Party during a close race where she came up just short to Gov.-elect Brian Kemp (R) in the race to be Georgia’s governor.

{mosads}Before her gubernatorial bid, Abrams served 11 years in the Georgia House of Representatives, seven of which she was the House minority leader.

“The entire American Progress organization is thrilled to welcome Stacey Abrams to the Center for American Progress’ board of directors,” CAP President and CEO Neera Tanden said.

“Throughout her career, Stacey Abrams has been a trailblazer. This year, as the first African American woman to be a major party’s nominee for governor, she inspired record turnout at the polls in Georgia and energized and galvanized progressives across the country.”

Abrams also expressed excitement about joining the organization.

“I am honored to be joining the board of Center for American Progress,” she said. “Led by the extraordinary Neera Tanden, CAP has been at the forefront of progressive policy development and activism for years. Together, we will find and support bold solutions on health care access, voting rights, the economy, and other critical issues our nation faces.”

Abrams has said that her run for Georgia governor would not be her last foray into politics.

Earlier this month, Abrams said, “What it is I’m going to run for I haven’t decided yet. Stay tuned.”
