Santa Fe High School students return for first time since shooting

Students at Santa Fe High School returned to their Texas campus on Tuesday for the first time since a gunman opened fire at the school on May 18, killing 10 people. 

Enhanced security measures, including an increased police presence, were in place as students entered the high school not far outside Houston on Tuesday morning, The Associated Press reported. 

{mosads}Students were reportedly prohibited from bringing any backpacks or large purses into the school and were required to show school identifications.

The classrooms where the shooting took place have been blocked off. 

Students with classes in the area of the shooting were allowed to enter at around 8 a.m. They were followed by the rest of the student body two hours later. 

Students were also called to a school assembly on Tuesday to honor the victims of the shooting. 

The suspected shooter has been identified as 17-year-old Dimitrios Pagourtzis, a student at the school. He has been charged with capital murder and aggravated assault on a public servant.

Authorities said that Pagourtzis used a shotgun and a .38 revolver that belonged to his father to carry out the attack.
