Petition to disbar lawyer who ranted at Spanish-speakers gets over 10K signatures

A petition to disbar a New York attorney who went on a rant against Spanish-speaking employees at a Manhattan restaurant has met its initial goal of 10,000 signatures.

Because the Change.org petition surpassed its initial target, it raised its goal to 15,000.

“Please stand up to racism and bigotry by signing and sharing this petition,” the petition page reads.

The attorney, Aaron Schlossberg, was captured in a video yelling at employees at the Fresh Kitchen restaurant in midtown Manhattan, saying that they were likely immigrants living in the U.S. without legal status and threatening to call Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE).

“And my guess is they’re not documented,” Schlossberg said to one employee. “So my next call is to ICE to have each one of them kicked out of my country.”

The video sparked outrage online, and prompted one activist to start a campaign on the fundraising website GoFundMe to raise money to send a taco truck and a mariachi band to Schlossberg’s office.

His office has also received a series of negative reviews on Yelp.
