NY protesters march in veils holding photos of school shooting victims

Protesters participating in the “March for Our Lives” rally in New York City wore veils to honor the victims of gun violence at Sandy Hook Elementary School and Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School.

The protesters were spotted in Manhattan on Saturday during the rally, and also carried the photos of gun violence victims.

The “March for Our Lives” rally for gun reform in Washington, D.C., on Saturday was largely organized by student survivors of the Stoneman Douglas school shooting in Florida last month that left 17 people dead.

The 2012 shooting at Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown, Conn., left 28 people dead, most of them children between 6 and 7 years old.

While a number of politicians were spotted marching with the crowd, no elected official spoke at the rally in D.C. Most of the speakers were students from Stoneman Douglas or students affected by gun violence.

After the Stoneman Douglas shooting, the high school students began to organize and advocate for gun reform, largely targeting the National Rifle Association and politicians supported by the group.

Organizers have estimated that 800,000 people turned out for the rally in D.C.
