Former Sen. Kay Hagan in ICU after being rushed to hospital

Former Sen. Kay Hagan (D-N.C.) is in intensive care after being rushed to a Washington D.C. hospital, according to reports.

{mosads}Hagan, 63, was taken to the hospital Thursday after falling seriously ill, the Lakeland Ledger first reported.

Her brother, Joe L. Ruthven, said she did not have a heart attack and is not in a coma, but did not specify her condition any further.

“We don’t want any miscommunication or overreaction,” her brother said.

“Kay is receiving the best possible medical care and we are very thankful for her doctors and nurses who are working tirelessly to help her get well,” the family said in a statement, according to the News & Observer.

The former Democratic senator served in the Senate from 2009 until she lost her re-election bid to Thom Tillis in 2014. 

Tillis tweeted in response to the news on Saturday, wishing Hagan a “speedy recovery.”
