Anthony Weiner to make first cable news appearance since incarceration on Hannity

Former Rep. Anthony Weiner (D-N.Y.) on Monday will make his first appearance on a cable news network since being released from prison in 2019.

Weiner will appear on Monday’s edition of Fox News host Sean Hannity’s program, The Hill has learned, as he begins making the rounds to promote a new radio show on WABC that he and former New York City mayoral candidate Curtis Sliwa (R) have started. 

The Democrat spent 12 years in the House before he was forced to resign in 2011 after revelations surfaced that he had sent sexually explicit messages to multiple women. Weiner also ran for mayor of New York City in 2013 but lost after explicit photos he had sent women came to light.

In 2017, Weiner was sentenced to 21 months in prison for sending sexually explicit messages to a minor. He was released from prison in early 2019. 

Huma Abedin, a former top campaign aide to former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, divorced Weiner in 2017 and wrote about her struggles in their marriage as part of her new memoir, which she spent several days late last year promoting. 

“I liked my anonymity, a lot,” Abedin said in October of the scandal that embroiled her marriage. “I don’t read anything about myself. I never did.”

“I am not going back into public life, I am doing a radio show with a friend of mine,” Weiner told Page Six last week. 

Weiner last appeared on Hannity’s show in 2013, according to The Hollywood Reporter, when the prime-time host pressed the former congressman about sending explicit images to women. 

“What the hell were you thinking?” Hannity asked Weiner, adding, “I thought maybe the reason you are here is because, maybe, you wanted to transition to television and maybe you’re coming on this show in the hopes of, like, replacing Chris Matthews.”

“Fox apparently has much lower standards,” Weiner shot back later during the combative interview. “I’d much rather have a job on Fox.”
