Eva Longoria getting mini series on CNN+

Actress, producer and activist Eva Longoria is getting a show on CNN’s new streaming service.

The network on Wednesday announced that Longoria would host an upcoming CNN Original Series dubbed “Eva Longoria: Searching for Mexico.”

The six-part series, which will be available only on the network’s soon-to-be-launched streaming service, is a new iteration of the critically acclaimed CNN Original Series “Stanley Tucci: Searching for Italy.” Longoria’s series will be produced by the film and television company behind Tucci’s original.

“Partnering with CNN on a culinary driven expedition throughout Mexico is a dream come true. I am so proud of my Mexican-American roots and can’t wait to bring the hidden gems of Mexico to the world through Searching for Mexico,” Longoria said in a statement. “I am a huge fan of Stanley’s journey throughout Italy; he set the bar high, and I can’t wait for everyone to fall in love with the magic of Mexico.”

The series will follow Longoria as she travels through Mexico, the network said, “exploring one of the most popular, and arguably misunderstood, global cuisines.”

Amy Entelis, head for Talent and Content Development at CNN said Longoria’s passion for Mexican food and culture presents a “natural follow up” to Tucci’s series.

Longoria, a longtime Hollywood actress, writer, producer and director, has been an outspoken liberal activist for years and emceed the 2020 Democratic National Convention, which was held virtually due to the coronavirus pandemic.

After former President Trump was elected in 2016, she said she was “in bed for almost two days.”

After President Biden was elected president, Longoria earned headlines when she was criticized for comments calling Latinas the “real heroines” of his victory.

“When I said that Latinas were heroines in this election, I simply meant that they turned out in greater numbers and voted more progressively than LATINO MEN,” Longoria wrote in an apology after the remark. “My wording was not clear and I deeply regret that,” she said. “There is such a history in our community of anti-Blackness … and I would never want to contribute to that.”
