Political pundit and former co-host of ABC’s “The View” Meghan McCain is arguing President Biden has failed to make good on a campaign promise to unite the country at a time of escalating partisan division nationwide.
Referencing Biden’s repeated vows along the campaign trail last year to “heal the soul of America,” McCain, a conservative Republican, blasted the commander-in-chief.
“No one is healing. Nothing is healed,” she wrote in her debut column for DailyMail.com published on Tuesday. “The wound Donald Trump ripped open has done nothing but fester since Scranton Joe was inaugurated.”
A frequent critic of the Biden administration while a co-host on “The View,” McCain said the president has “broken with his rhetoric of unity to create more division and distrust.”
She cited rising inflation figures leading to increases in prices for consumer goods in recent months, the administration’s endorsement of local mask orders and vaccine requirement mandates, and Biden’s inaccurate prediction on the speed with which vaccine booster shots would be approved by the federal government.
“The bureaucracy, the media, and this White House are out of touch with reality,” McCain wrote. “They don’t have a plan. They don’t know what to do. They’re trying to throw money at the problems, but deep down, they know this won’t solve anything.”
McCain, the daughter of the late Sen. John McCain (R-Ariz.), was often critical of former President Trump during her stint on the daytime political talk show.
“He didn’t disavow it, he didn’t send in the National Guard and then he called them special and said we love them,” McCain said a day after the riot at the U.S. Capitol on Jan. 6, referring to the president’s comments in a video message directed at the rioters, adding: “We have to get him out immediately … because this cannot stand.”
McCain’s mother, Cindy McCain, is an outspoken supporter of Biden, endorsing him and appearing in political ads on his behalf during the 2020 presidential campaign.
But the current president, Meghan McCain suggested, is “on the path to become worse than Jimmy Carter.”
“The American people are good. I believe in them,” she concluded. “And I believe they deserve a better class of leader.”
