Fox Nation running ads for Andrew Cuomo special on brother Chris Cuomo’s CNN show
Fox News Media’s streaming service, Fox Nation, is running ads for a special critical of New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo (D) on the CNN show of his brother Chris Cuomo, Mediaite reported Monday.
The special, called “The Collapse of Cuomo,” premiered on Fox Nation Monday and reports on several scandals the governor is facing.
A 30-second spot promoting the special is running in markets like New York City and Washington, D.C., and will air on “Cuomo Prime Time,” as well as other CNN shows such as “New Day” and “The Situation Room,” according to Mediaite.
Fox News did not comment on the ads after being contacted by The Hill.
CNN also did not comment on the ads when contacted by The Hill. But a person familiar with the process confirmed that the ads were not purchased on the CNN national network but were local buys in individual markets. Advertisers can purchase these directly through their cable operators and CNN is not involved in those transactions.
CNN and Chris Cuomo have faced criticism for their vacillating positions on how “Cuomo Prime Time” would cover the governor and his scandals and CNN has changed its mind at least three times on whether Cuomo could report on his brother.
In a 2020 column, The New York Times reported that network executives ordered the anchor not to report on his brother in 2013.
That policy was dropped during the pandemic last year and the governor would often appear on his brother’s show. It was reversed again after the governor became the focus of sexual misconduct allegations this spring.
The controversy intensified after it was reported that Chris Cuomo was one of several people close to the governor who received preferential access to COVID-19 testing.
