Report: Disney to name new head of ABC News

Disney will soon name Kimberly Godwin, a CBS News executive vice president, as president of ABC News, according to NBC News.

Godwin and Disney, the parent company of ABC, are in the last stages of negotiating her contract, the report stated. As president of ABC News, Godwin would report to the chairman of Disney’s entertainment division, Peter Rice, according to NBC.

She would be the first Black woman to lead ABC News, NBC reported.

Godwin will be replacing James Goldston, who announced on Jan. 28 he was leaving that position and ABC News after a seven-year stint with the organization.

ABC News did not immediately respond to requests for comment from The Hill. Godwin could not be reached for comment.

Godwin has worked at local stations but also had a long history with NBC News, according to LinkedIn, before starting her tenure at CBS in 2007. She also worked at Florida A&M University, first as an adjunct professor of journalism then as director of that school’s division of journalism.
