‘The View’ hosts urge Trump to take COVID-19 vaccine publicly

Two co-hosts on “The View” are pressuring President Trump to take the coronavirus vaccine on camera to help build public trust in the immunization process. 

“He likes to cast doubt on everything, on the election, on Dr. [Anthony] Fauci, on science, on climate change — and that’s his thing,” Joy Behar said of Trump. “And truthfully, his supporters need to watch him take it even though he had the virus allegedly … all these people who fall in line with whatever he tells them to do. So he should take it.” 

Trump halted plans to get some high-ranking White House staffers among the first immunized, tweeting Saturday night that members of his administration “should receive the vaccine somewhat later in the program, unless specifically necessary.”

Behar said she “doesn’t buy it.” 

Co-host Sunny Hostin said she would also like to see Trump take the vaccine publicly. 

“It would go a long way for the president to televise taking the vaccine because we know that they have downplayed the virus,” Hostin said. “They’ve continuously downplayed the need for social distancing and masks. They’ve had these super-spreader rallies.”

On Monday, White House press secretary Kayleigh McEnany announced that key officials “like Situation Room staff, among others” will have early access to the vaccine, including “certain members of Congress.”

Earlier this month, former Presidents Obama, George W. Bush and Clinton all said they would take the vaccine on camera to help raise awareness.
