Fox News comes out on top of election coverage with 13.6M views

Fox News was the most-watched network for Tuesday’s election night coverage, according to early numbers from Nielsen Media Research.

The news network averaged 13.63 million total viewers in prime time for what proved to be a drama-filled and anxiety-provoking election night.

CNN came in second for major network coverage with 9.1 million total viewers, followed by MSNBC’s 7.31 million, ABC’s 6.1 million, NBC’s 5.63 million, CBS’s 4.34 million and FOX-TV’s 3.28 million.

In the coveted demographic of viewers between the ages of 18 to 49, Fox News averaged 4.9 million viewers, followed by CNN’s 4.44 million and NBC’s 2.5 million. MSNBC was fourth in the category with 2.4 million, followed by ABC’s 2.3 million, CBS’s 1.66 million and FOX-TV’s 1.6 million.

Final numbers are expected later Wednesday afternoon.

The presidential race has spilled into Wednesday after key battleground states like Pennsylvania, North Carolina, Georgia and Michigan are still too close to call.

President Trump notched early wins in Florida, Ohio, Texas and Iowa — key battlegrounds the president needed to clinch in order to have a path to 270 electoral votes.

On Wednesday, The Associated Press called the state of Wisconsin for Biden by a razor-thin edge of nearly 20,000 votes. Biden needs to maintain the “blue wall” of Wisconsin, Michigan and Pennsylvania among other path configurations to have a shot at the White House.

Republicans also unexpectedly gained seats in the Democratic-controlled House, while the GOP appears to be headed to holding on to its majority in the Senate, results many political pundits and pollsters did not predict.
