Buttigieg launches his own podcast
Former South Bend, Ind., Mayor Pete Buttigieg (D) has launched a podcast, a professional endeavor that marks a step into the media world since bowing out of the Democratic presidential primary earlier this year.
The new show, “The Deciding Decade with Pete Buttigieg,” is available on iHeart Radio and features Buttigieg talking with leaders in various realms, including politics. The production is similar in style to that of Andrew Yang on his show “Yang Speaks.” Yang was also a 2020 Democratic contender earlier on in the year.
In a two-minute preview posted on the platform Tuesday, Buttigieg said the new show would feature “thinkers, athletes, artists, authors, policymakers, people whose ideas will shape the times we’re about to live through.”
“I hope these conversations inspire you, like they are inspiring me,” he continues in the preview. “And together we’ll get a glimpse at the future of our country, beginning with the decade ahead.”
Buttigieg finished in fifth place in terms of overall delegates in the 2020 Democratic primary; earlier this year, he withdrew from the race and endorsed former Vice President Joe Biden.
He praised Biden’s courage on issues such as marriage equality last month during a speech at the all-virtual Democratic National Convention, calling same-sex marriages such as his own possible only due to the actions of politicians such as the former vice president.
“Love makes my marriage real, but political courage made it possible … including that of Joe Biden, who stepped out ahead even of this party when he said that marriage equality should be the law of the land,” he said.
Buttigieg’s eight-year tenure as mayor of South Bend, Ind., ended in January.
