Joe Rogan announced on his popular podcast that he is moving from his longtime home of Los Angeles to Texas “soon” after months of hints, with the host citing overpopulation and “a little bit more freedom” for the change.

“I’m going to go to Texas,” Rogan said. “I just want to go somewhere in the center of the country, somewhere where it’s easy to travel to both places and somewhere where you have a little bit more freedom.”

“Also, I think that where we live right here in Los Angeles is overcrowded,” the 52-year-old continued. “I think most of the time it’s not a problem. But I think it’s exposing the fact that it’s a real issue when you look at the number of people that are catching [COVID-19] because of this overpopulation issue. When you look at the traffic, you look at the economic despair, when you look at the homelessness problem that has accelerated radically over the last decade, I think there are too many people here.”

Rogan, who also is a UFC commentator, did not say where he will be based in Texas.

The announcement comes two months after the podcaster signed an exclusive deal with Spotify. The terms of the deal, which starts in September, were not publicly disclosed.

Rogan reportedly brought in $30 million in revenue last year with 190 million downloads per month for the “Joe Rogan Experience” podcast on YouTube, where he currently has more than 8.4 million subscribers.

Spotify, a music services provider, was launched in 2008. It currently has more than 130 million premium subscribers.
