Veteran CBS White House correspondent Mark Knoller confirms layoff

CBS News White House correspondent Mark Knoller confirmed he was laid off from the news organization, though he will be on the job until the end of July.

“Not a mistake. I got a layoff notice. Will be on the job through the end of July. Will see what happens then,” he told the Washington Examiner.

Knoller, who has been at CBS News for 32 years, first indicated he might be leaving the organization last month.

“Thanks to all for the many kind words. Much appreciated. For the time being, I’m still on the job, still keeping count on the president. Will see what happens. Thanks again,” Knoller wrote on Twitter to his more than 335,000 followers on May 28.

Knoller is popular among the White House press corps and is often referred to as a “human encyclopedia” on certain presidential trivia.

A 2013 profile in Washingtonian magazine captured one of many examples of Knoller’s photographic mind, when he was able to recount the date for President Obama’s last full news conference immediately without even checking his notes while also reciting exactly how long it was.

Knoller noted in a Friday tweet that President Trump’s Saturday event in Tulsa, Okla., will be the president’s 85th campaign rally since taking office.
