Spicer served as Trump’s first press secretary until August 2017. The former Republican National Committee spokesman also served as White House communications director.
Wednesday evening’s sit-down also marks the first time a former White House press secretary has interviewed a president while still in office.
In March, Spicer appeared in the White House press room as a reporter during a coronavirus task force briefing, marking his first appearance there since his departure from the Trump administration.
Trump is attempting to weather a national firestorm surrounding the death of George Floyd, an unarmed African American man who died while in police custody in Minneapolis.
Former Minneapolis police officer Derek Chauvin, who has been charged with third-degree murder and second-degree manslaughter, was seen in a video kneeling on Floyd’s neck for more than eight minutes while Floyd said he could not breathe.
The president has condemned Floyd’s death while urging governors to deploy National Guard units to contain protests — sometimes marred by looting, arson and violence — that have gripped many major cities across the country.
The Trump interview from the White House for “Spicer & Co.” will air at 6 p.m.
