Fox’s Caldwell on Floyd’s death: ‘You have to speak out against these injustices’

Fox News political analyst Gianno Caldwell made a plea to viewers on Friday, telling them they need to speak out against “injustices” like the death of George Floyd in Minneapolis.

“I know there [are] a lot of great people who aren’t bigoted, they’re not racists, who are watching right now,” said Caldwell, an African American conservative. “And, I want to tell you: You have to use your platform. You have to speak out against these injustices. None of us can be quiet while this is going on.”

Caldwell made the remarks on “America’s Newsroom” while discussing the violent protests in Minneapolis following Floyd’s death while in police custody earlier this week.

“For a lot of African Americans in this country, they feel that being black is a curse,” Caldwell told anchor Sandra Smith. “It’s a curse because before you know my name, before you know the content of my character, before you know my moral compass, I’m already considered a threat to you, to so many Americans and, I’m telling you, a threat when I’m jogging, a threat when you have your knee on my neck and I’m screaming ‘I can’t breathe,’ a threat when you are in the park walking your dog.”

“This reality that has gone on for decades must come to an end,” he added.

Derek Chauvin, the former Minneapolis police officer charged with third-degree murder and manslaughter on Friday afternoon, was seen kneeling on Floyd’s neck in a video that emerged earlier this week.

The video sparked three nights of demonstrations in the city, with some protests turning violent on Thursday evening.

Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frey (D) announced a mandatory curfew for the city starting Friday night. The curfew pertains to all public places and will run from 8 p.m. to 6 a.m.

“If we don’t unite today, we’re not going to have a country to unite in,” Caldwell said. “We have to bring justice to this situation and it must be swift.”
