Meghan McCain lauds Trump ad roasting Pelosi over ice cream-themed interview: ‘A kill shot’
ABC’s Meghan McCain said Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) fell into a trap by doing a late-night TV interview that included a discussion about a stockpile of ice cream in her kitchen freezer.
“The View” host on Tuesday called an ad from the Trump campaign mocking the moment “a kill shot,” and advised Pelosi to avoid comedy shows amid a pandemic.
Pelosi talked about gourmet ice cream “you can get through the mail” while sitting in front of a large refrigerator while being interviewed by CBS “Late Late Show” host James Corden last week. Pelosi also discussed the Paycheck Protection Program, a small business lending program set up to help firms get through the coronavirus pandemic. Legislation to provide more money for the program was stalled on Capitol Hill at the time.
McCain said Pelosi had fallen into a trap during the appearance given the economic hardships people are facing in the country. More than 22 million people have filed for unemployment benefits over the past three weeks.
“They’re traps,” McCain said of late-night shows for politicians. “They get you to say things there because you feel you’re being funny. Leave it to the professionals and don’t go on comedy shows. Come on our show.”
Co-host Joy Behar said the incident with Pelosi wasn’t a big deal.
“OK, it doesn’t look good maybe, she’s got an expensive refrigerator. Let’s go to Trump Tower and see what kind of refrigerator he has,” Behar said of the Trump ad, which she deemed a distraction.
Americans are losing their jobs since the virus rocked the economy.
Nancy Pelosi blocks funding for people to keep getting paychecks.
But she’s got a $24K fridge full of ice cream, so she’s cool.

“I thought it was a kill shot,” McCain responded.
“It’s not the ice cream in her fridge. It’s the fact that she’s standing behind giant refrigerators, multiple ones that cost $24,000 each, and you’re right, Joy, politicians are wealthy, Trump is wealthy, but I think in this specific moment, optics are narratives,” she added.
