Chris Cuomo’s wife tests positive for coronavirus: ‘The one thing I was hoping wouldn’t happen’

CNN anchor Chris Cuomo, who revealed he had tested positive for the coronavirus just more than two weeks ago, on Wednesday announced that his wife, Christina, has also tested positive for COVID-19, saying, “It is the one thing I was hoping wouldn’t happen and now it has.”

Cuomo, who has been broadcasting from the basement of his Southampton, N.Y., home while under quarantine, made the announcement during an episode of his show “Cuomo Prime Time.”

“Cristina now has COVID, she is now positive,” Cuomo said while interviewing his brother, New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo (D), who has appeared regularly on the program since New York became the epicenter of the virus a few weeks ago. 

“It just breaks my heart,” the anchor added. “It is the one thing I was hoping wouldn’t happen, and now it has.”

Christina Cuomo’s symptoms include a loss of smell and taste, according to her husband.

“It’s very hard for people to quarantine in a home [together] and other people not to get it,” Andrew Cuomo said.

“That’s why we talked about people who quarantine in hotels. But to do it in a home, where a person is bringing you dishes, bringing you food. Even if they’re wearing a mask and gloves, that virus can live on some surfaces up to two days.”

“In some ways this was inevitable,” the governor added. “Luckily it was Cristina and not one of the kids.”

The Cuomo story mirrors that of ABC News anchor George Stephanopoulos, whose wife, Ali Wentworth, tested positive earlier this month for the virus before he did last week.

The death toll in New York is more than 11,586, with the U.S. toll having climbed past 30,000 according to data compiled by Johns Hopkins University.
