Sean Spicer to launch ‘Spicer & Co.’ on Newsmax TV Tuesday night
Sean Spicer will launch “Spicer & Co.” on Tuesday evening, and while the former White House press secretary said that he will support President Trump, the new show will not be a vehicle for his reelection.
Spicer, who served as Trump’s press secretary for the first eight months of his presidency, most recently captured national attention as a surprisingly successful contestant on ABC’s “Dancing with the Stars.”
The new program, which includes co-host Lyndsay Keith, will air weekdays at 6 p.m.
“We’re playing the long game here,” Newsmax CEO Chris Ruddy said in an interview with The Associated Press. “We’re building a network over the long haul and we expect Sean is going to be one of our rising stars.”
Spicer has been an outspoken advocate of the president in the interviews he’s done since leaving the White House, but also correctly predicted the rise of Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.) to front-runner status well before votes were cast in the Democratic primary.
“I will obviously be a supporter of his,” Spicer told the AP regarding Trump. “But the goal is not to make this show a vehicle for [his reelection] to happen.”
Newsmax TV launched in 2014 and is run by Ruddy, a friend of the president who also once contributed $1 million to the Clinton Foundation.
Despite being in 70 million homes, the network has struggled from a ratings perspective.
“The excitement of being part of something new really appealed to me,” Spicer also told the AP. “And the excitement of having a blank canvas. We can bring in new viewers and help build a network from the ground up.”
