Karine Jean-Pierre: Calls for Biden to resign presidency ‘ridiculous’

White House press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre brushed away calls from Republicans that President Biden should resign from the presidency following his decision to bow out of the 2024 presidential race.

“I think that’s ridiculous, seriously,” Jean-Pierre said during an appearance on ABC’s “The View” on Tuesday. “The president decided to not run for reelection. That’s it. That’s all he decided on. He wants to continue to do the work.”

Jean-Pierre said Biden’s accomplishments over the last three years give her confidence “he can continue to do the work” before he leaves the White House in January.

“It shows how important his leadership is,” she said. “We have so much more work to do and he understands that.”

Biden dropped out of the presidential race Sunday facing intensifying questions over his health and mental acuity, issuing an endorsement for Vice President Harris to replace him on the ticket.

Several leading Republicans, including GOP vice presidential nominee Sen. JD Vance (R-Ohio), have suggested that if Biden is not fit to run for reelection, he is also not suited to lead the country.

Biden is slated to speak to the nation Wednesday evening during a prime-time address that will mark his first public remarks since he announced his decision to drop out over the weekend.
