Comey, Schiff to be interviewed by Fox’s Chris Wallace
Former FBI Director James Comey and House Intelligence Committee Chairman Adam Schiff (D-Calif.) will be interviewed by “Fox News Sunday” anchor Chris Wallace this weekend to discuss impeachment and a recent inspector general report regarding alleged surveillance abuse during the 2016 election.
The announcement from the network came the same week that House Democrats unveiled two articles of impeachment against President Trump and as Justice Department Inspector General Michael Horowitz released a report on the FBI’s decision to open investigations into Trump associates in 2016, when Comey was still director of the FBI.
Comey was fired by Trump in May 2017.
Both Schiff and Comey have appeared on Fox before. Schiff was interviewed on Wallace’s Sunday political affairs program on April 21, while Comey was interviewed by anchor Bret Baier on “Special Report” back in April 2018.
The two guests will be interviewed separately on Sunday.
Trump has become increasingly critical of Fox News, arguing earlier this week that the network was pandering to the Democratic Party by hosting progressive lawmakers to discuss the impeachment inquiry.
“Don’t get why @FoxNews puts losers on like @RepSwalwell (who got ZERO as presidential candidate before quitting), Pramila Jayapal, David Cicilline and others who are Radical Left Haters,” Trump tweeted on Sunday just hours after Wallace hosted Cicilline, a Democratic congressman from Rhode Island, on “Fox News Sunday.”
News of the upcoming interview also comes just two days after Comey alleged that “Fox & Friends” canceled a scheduled appearance after the release of Horowitz’s report, which criticized the FBI’s handling of applications to surveil former Trump campaign adviser Carter Page in 2016 but ultimately concluded that agents were not motivated by political bias when they launched investigations into Trump associates.
A Fox spokesperson said in statement on Monday that Comey “was not booked and was never confirmed to appear on Fox & Friends.”
Wallace, 72, has been in journalism for more than 50 years. During the 2016 campaign he moderated the third debate between Trump and Democratic nominee Hillary Clinton, making him the first Fox News anchor to moderate a general election presidential debate.
