MSNBC ‘Climate in Crisis’ special draws 1.3M viewers in 8 pm timeslot

MSNBC’s “All in with Chris Hayes: Climate in Crisis” averaged 1.3 million total viewers Thursday night at 8 p.m., a decrease of 27 percent from the network’s 2019 average-to-date in that time slot, according to early Nielsen Media Research.

The two-day climate forum being held at Georgetown University in Washington, D.C., did not include a number of top Democratic presidential candidates, including front-runner and former Vice President Joe Biden, Massachusetts Sen. Elizabeth Warren, former Texas Rep. Beto O’Rourke, California Sen. Kamala Harris and Minnesota Sen. Amy Klobuchar.{mosads}

Fox News’s Tucker Carlson finished first in the time slot on Thursday night, delivering 2.8 million total viewers. MSNBC was second with 1.3 million, followed by CNN’s Anderson Cooper with 1.04 million.

In the 25-54 demographic that advertisers covet most, Fox News was first with 418,000 viewers, followed by CNN with 228,000 in the category and MSNBC with 169,000. The 169,000 in the category is 37 percent below the network’s 2019-to-date average.

Vermont Independent Sen. Bernie Sanders, New Jersey Sen. Cory Booker and South Bend, Ind., Mayor Pete Buttigieg will be the highest-profile names appearing at the MSNBC event. All three candidates have released individual climate policies.

CNN’s seven-hour “Climate Crisis” Town Hall that aired on Sept. 4 averaged 1.1 million viewers and 266,000 in the demographic.
