Sarah Sanders makes debut as Fox News contributor

Sarah Huckabee Sanders made her debut as a Fox News contributor on Friday, picking up where she left off in her previous job as White House press secretary by heaping praise on President Trump’s record and mocking Democratic presidential candidates.

Sanders appeared on “Fox & Friends” during a broadcast from New York City, where she spoke warmly of her time in the White House and attempted to spin a new jobs report that fell slightly below expectations as a sign that Trump’s agenda is working.

“I think at the end of the day there is no question that the president and his administration have turned the country around,” she said.{mosads}

The former press secretary got in a few jabs at Democrats after being asked about the policies some presidential candidates shared at a recent CNN town hall on climate change, as well as New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio’s appearance on Fox News a night earlier.

“The things that are coming out of Democrats’ mouths these days, I can’t even process it they’re so stupid,” Sanders said.

“Any American that is listening to the things that Democrats are saying and still supports them you have to ask them, why?” she added.

Trump has spoken highly of Sanders and encouraged her to run for governor of Arkansas. He promoted her Fox appearance in a tweet late Thursday, then tweeted approvingly after her segment ended.

Great interview of Sarah Sanders by @foxandfriends. She is a terrific person with a great future!” Trump tweeted.

Sanders left the White House earlier this year after spending roughly two years as press secretary. Her tenure was marked by the demise of the daily press briefing and an acrimonious relationship with reporters.

She has carefully coordinated her post–White House path, announcing her job as a Fox contributor at revealing she will be releasing a memoir in fall 2020.

The Fox hosts noted that she faced public backlash for her role in the administration, such as when she was asked to leave the Red Hen restaurant in Virginia last year.

Sanders said she still gets criticized in public and expressed surprise that it is often women who come up to her to voice their disapproval with her support for Trump.

“I am only the third woman and the first mom to ever be the White House press secretary, and yet women attack me relentlessly,” she said.

“They still see me as somebody who is a very pro-Trump supporter,” she added. “I’m not going to change my position. It would be very odd to go from doing what I was doing to all of a sudden doing something very different.”
